Compatibility

Which dive computers does Ascent work with?

Ascent works with Shearwater computers that support Bluetooth download, including the Perdix (Perdix 2 / Perdix AI), Teric, Peregrine, and Peregrine TX. Older Petrel and Predator models with Bluetooth firmware also work.

What iPhone do I need?

Ascent requires iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Older iPhones that cannot update to iOS 26 are not supported.

Is there an iPad version? Mac? Apple Watch?

Ascent is iPhone-only today. iPad and Mac versions may come later based on demand. There is no Apple Watch app; the dive computer on your wrist already does that job better than a Watch could.

Downloading dives over Bluetooth

How do I download dives from my Shearwater?

Open the Sync tab in Ascent, then put your Shearwater into Bluetooth Mode from its menu. Tap Scan. Ascent finds your computer and downloads new dives automatically, tagging each one with your phone's current GPS location.

My dive computer isn't showing up. What now?

In order:

  • Make sure the computer is in Bluetooth Mode (not just powered on).
  • Make sure Bluetooth is on in iOS Settings, and that Ascent has Bluetooth permission (Settings → Ascent).
  • Move within a few feet of the computer. Shearwater's Bluetooth is short-range by design.
  • If you've previously paired with another phone or app, leave Bluetooth Mode and re-enter it on the Shearwater. It only advertises to one device at a time.
  • Restart your iPhone's Bluetooth (Settings → Bluetooth, toggle off and back on). iOS occasionally needs this.

If it still doesn't appear, email support with your computer model and firmware version.

Only some of my dives downloaded.

Shearwater computers expose dives in their internal log buffer. Once a dive scrolls out of that buffer (typically after several hundred newer dives), it is no longer downloadable over Bluetooth. Ascent downloads every dive your computer still has.

If you have a backup of older dives in another app, you can import them as UDDF from Settings → Dive Log.

Does sync need Ascent to stay open?

Yes. Keep Ascent in the foreground during sync. iOS suspends background apps quickly, and Bluetooth transfers will stall if Ascent is backgrounded mid-download.

iCloud and multiple iPhones

How does iCloud sync work?

Ascent uses your private iCloud (Apple's CloudKit). Sign in to iCloud on each iPhone where you want your logbook, and Ascent will sync your dives, photos, gear, certifications, buddies, and insurance details automatically. You don't create an account; your Apple ID is the account.

I got a new iPhone. Will my dives come with me?

Yes. Install Ascent on the new iPhone and sign in to the same iCloud. Your full logbook will appear within a few minutes (or up to an hour if you have many photos). Your dive history is safe even if you lose or wipe your old phone.

What if I'm not signed in to iCloud?

Ascent still works. Your data stays on the device. Sign in to iCloud later and the local logbook will upload automatically. You can also turn off iCloud sync for Ascent specifically in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud.

Can my dive buddy and I share a single logbook?

No. Ascent syncs to your private iCloud, which is per-Apple-ID. Family Sharing covers the Pro purchase across your family, but each family member keeps their own private dive log.

Ascent Pro

What's free and what's Pro?

Every feature is in the free version. The free version caps your logbook at 20 dives total. Once you cross 20, Pro unlocks unlimited dives. There are no other restrictions.

Is Pro a subscription?

No. Pro is a one-time purchase. Buy once, yours forever.

How does Family Sharing work?

Ascent Pro is Family Sharing eligible. After you buy Pro, anyone in your Apple Family group can install Ascent and use Pro for free. Each family member keeps their own private dive log.

I bought Pro but my other iPhone shows the free version.

On the second iPhone, open Settings inside Ascent and tap Restore Purchase. Make sure both iPhones are signed in to the same Apple ID (or, for Family Sharing, that both Apple IDs are in the same family group).

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com using the Apple ID that bought Pro.

Insurance, gear, and certifications

How do insurance expiration reminders work?

Set an expiration date on your insurance card in Settings → Insurance, and Ascent schedules two local notifications:

  • A heads-up 30 days before expiration.
  • An expired alert on the day itself.

Both fire at 9 am local time. The reminders are local to your iPhone, so they don't depend on any server.

How does the emergency dial button work?

When you save a phone number on your insurance card (your provider's emergency hotline, typically), the editor shows a prominent call button at the top. Tapping it dials immediately through your iPhone's regular dialer.

How are gear service reminders triggered?

For each gear item you can set a service interval in months, dives, or both. Ascent fires a local notification as soon as either threshold is crossed. Tap Mark serviced to reset the counter. The next reminder runs from that date and dive count.

I retired a piece of gear. Why is it still on my old dives?

That's intentional. Retiring a gear item hides it from new-dive pickers but keeps it linked to dives you logged with it. Your historical record stays accurate.

Data and privacy

Can I export my dive log?

Yes. Settings → Dive Log → Export Dive Log writes a UDDF file you can save to Files, share to another app, or move to another logbook. UDDF is the open dive-log standard supported by Subsurface, MacDive, Diviac, and many others.

Can I import dives from another app?

Yes, also via UDDF. Settings → Dive Log → Import Dive Log accepts UDDF files from most other logbooks. The import is additive; it won't overwrite anything already in Ascent.

What data does Ascent collect about me?

None. Ascent has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no servers that receive your data. Your dives live on your device and in your private iCloud only. See the Privacy Policy for the full statement.

How do I delete all my data?

In Ascent: Settings → Danger Zone → Delete All Dives clears the local store. To clear your iCloud copy too, also turn off Ascent under iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud, and choose to delete the data when prompted.

Still stuck?

Email support@ascentdivelog.app with your iPhone model, iOS version, Shearwater model and firmware version (Settings → System Setup → System Info on the computer), and a description of what's happening. Screenshots help a lot.
